Come and visit the oldest jail in Ontario and the 2nd oldest jail in Canada. The L'Orignal Old Jail is a unique tourist attraction in eastern Ontario. Open to the public since 2007, the historic building motivates people from the surrounding region and elsewhere to soak in the penitentiary atmosphere of long ago.

MESURES
Preparing for your visit
The L’Orignal Old Jail is pleased to announce that we will open our doors to visitors beginning June 29, 2020. As we reopen the museum to the public, we ask you to work with us to keep our environment a safe space for yourself, for our staff and for all visitors.
What we’re doing to keep you safe:

Limiting visitor numbers (maximum of one group at a time).

Screening all visitors with our COVID-19 questionnaire.

Visits will be allowed by appointment only.

For the moment, we will be taking cash, e-transfers and credit cards.

Providing a physical barrier in our customer service area.

Reduction of seating areas inside the museum.

Encouraging physical distancing.

Staff will be wearing masks where physical distancing of 2 metres is not possible.

Providing hand sanitizer to everyone coming into the Old Jail.

Increasing cleaning and disinfecting throughout our facility.
What we’re asking of our visitors:

Stay home and book another appointment if you are not feeling well.

Book an appointment by calling (613) 675-4661 ext. 8107 before you head to the Old Jail.

You will now be asked to wear a mask to enter the museum. It is mandatory. Note that we will not be providing masks to visitors.

Only bring the essentials to during your visits, bags will not be allowed inside the Old Jail.

Respect physical distancing of 2 metres at all times.

Practice good hygiene. This includes using the hand sanitizer we provide at the entrance and avoid touching your face. Cough or sneeze into your elbow.

Our doors will be locked. Please call us upon arrival so we can greet you.
Our goal is to make you feel comfortable and safe during your visit to the L’Orignal Old Jail. The safety of all visitors and staff is our top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation; if additional precautions are required, we will update our website accordingly.
