● Frequently Asked Questions ●

Are all the guides bilingual?

Yes, all our guides are bilingual and can assist you in both French and English.

Is a reservation mandatory or just suggested?

Reservations are recommended to ensure availability, especially during peak times. However, walk-ins are welcome depending on space and scheduling. To guarantee your spot, we suggest booking in advance.

Are there guided tours, or can we explore on our own?

We offer both options! You can join one of our guided tours to hear fascinating stories and historical insights from our knowledgeable guides or explore the jail at your own pace with a self-guided visit.

Do you have a gift shop?

Yes, our small gift shop offers souvenirs and books about our local history.

How long does a visit usually take?

Most guided tours last about 45 minutes to an hour. If you're exploring on your own, you can take as much time as you'd like during open hours.

Is the jail still in operation?

No, the jail is no longer operational. It has been preserved as a historical site and museum open to the public for tours and events.

Is the tour scary?

Our standard tours focus on the historical and educational aspects of the jail. Some parts of the jail may feel eerie due to their history and atmosphere, but nothing is designed to frighten visitors — unless you join a paranormal tour!

Can we touch or enter the cells?

Yes, visitors are welcome to step into certain cells during the tour. However, we ask that you respect any restricted areas and do not touch artifacts or displays unless permitted.

Is the jail wheelchair accessible?

The L’Orignal Old Jail is fully accessible to wheelchair users. The first section may be accessed through the front door. To visit the cellblocks and the new section, visitors are invited to use the ramp located outside, which allows them to avoid the two steps inside. Please note that the second floor of the jail is not accessible to the public.
